Description

Description provided by the school district for 2008 - 2009

Westside Community Schools, an award-winning district located in the heart of Omaha, serves a diverse K-12 population of 6,000 students. Approximately one-third of the students live outside the District and attend Westside Schools through the State's Option Enrollment program. The District's 10 elementary schools also house two toddler programs, six pre-school programs, and two full-day, five-day-a-week programs for four-year-olds. District test scores are consistently well above state and national averages and all schools are North Central accredited. A one-to-one laptop initiative at Westside High School and Westside Middle School provides 24-7 computer access for students in grades 8 through12. More than 65% of Westside's certified staff members hold advanced degrees, and since 1994 all new hires have been required to earn a Masters degree within the first 10 years of employment. The District helps teachers meet this requirement by providing tuition reimbursement.
